Jason Taylor... a Jet?

What’s this I hear? The Jets are in serious negotiations with defensive end Jason Taylor. Yes Jet fans, the same Jason Taylor who countless times has voiced his hatred for not only the Jets but also their fans including Firemen Ed specifically. Just last year Taylor expressed his view of what it would talk for him to sign with the Jets saying, "It'd be very, very, very difficult. Very difficult. But at the end of the day, if you can't find a job anywhere else and the Jets call, I guess you've got to retire or go play." If Taylor does end up signing with the Jets I don’t think that it will be because it is the only job between him and retirement. Taylor still has the potential to be an extremely dominating player on the defensive line. I also believe that if he were to be added to the Jets Defense that he would be the final piece needed to turn them from a great defense into a championship caliber defense.

Last year the Jets sported the best defense in football. They were ranked number one in total yards, passing yards and in points given up. However there seemed to be something missing that stopped them from being the kind of defense similar to the 2000 Baltimore Ravens who have the capability to win a Super Bowl by themselves, without the support of a powerful offense. By adding Antonio Cromartie the Jets now have a shutdown corner to trot onto the field across from Revis Island. After this move, in my mind the last piece needed to bring the Jets defense to the next level is a dominating pass rusher and with Julius Peppers already off the market, Jason Taylor is the most dominating pass rusher left on the open market. If the Jets sign Taylor as many expect them to do, I believe it inevitable that their defense will go from being the best in the NFL today, to being one of the best defenses of all time.

  1. I don't like this at all. I would just hate to see this punk get signed after all the BS he has said in the past. Yes, he would make our defense better, but not in the long term.

I would much rather take a DE/OLB with the 29th pick like Ricky Sapp from Clemson because he would fill the need in the long term. Although paying 1.5 million for Taylor would be a steal.

  3. I'm not saying that Taylor is my favorite person for the job, just that he could be the last piece to the puzzle. I've always hated him as a player because of the things he has said and the plays he has made against the Jets. So I'm just realizing that as much as I may not like it, that Taylor may be the perfect option.

I do however agree with you that I would love to see a player like Sapp be the option the Jets choose to go with

  4. Yeah I agree with what you are saying. I feel like this year the Jets are really going all in. It's Super Bowl or bust it seems like, especially with the move for Taylor and LT.

  5. I do not mind if Jason Taylor joins the Jets, even though they play one of my teams that are in the same division. I would not be that upset or bothered if the Jets get to the Super Bowl especially since my main man LaDainian Tomlinson was dissed by the San Diego Chargers organization, great article title.
