Don't fear Revis will be Here

Jets fans need not worry. Darrelle Revis will be a Jet for years to come. I know that Mikey T doesn’t have the best track record with keeping his word about contract extensions but in this case he undoubtedly will follow up on his promise to Revis Island. And here is why, Revis is the best defensive player in the NFL and one of the top overall players in the NFL, Darrelle knows this, Coach Ryan knows this, Mike Tannenbaum knows this, Woody Johnson knows this and every person who follows the NFL knows this to be true. That is what sets this situation apart from Jets contract disputes in the past. Pete Kendall was a great offensive lineman, but he was getting old and was far from the dominate force he once was. As electrifying a player as Leon Washington is, he never had and never will have the ability to be an every down back, and therefore it was not necessary to sign him to an extension last year. Thomas Jones still is one of the best running backs in the league, but in 2 or 3 years he won’t be, and the Jets know that they have one of the future NFL Stars in second year running back Shonn Greene. The Jets have such a bad track record in making promises and not following up with contract extensions because in every single situation there was a very good reason why they didn’t give the player an extension. In the Case of Revis Island there is no reason and everyone including the Jets brass knows it. They are just dragging their feet in negotiations, in hope that Revis will agree to something lower than the ridiculous bench mark set by the Raiders. Which he won’t because Revis is right, he is the best cornerback in football let alone the best defensive player, although the contract that he is aiming to beat is absolutely ridiculous, it is what it is. Revis is the best cornerback in the NFL and he deserves to and will end up being paid that amount, because the Jets brass knows that if they don’t pay it to him, some other team most certainly will.
